1971 Selmer Mark VI Tenor 191xxx with 80-85% Original Lacquer. Within the saxophone community, there are few brands that are held with such reverence as Selmer Paris. Originally focusing on clarinets, Henri Selmer entered the saxophone market in 1922, and has been the preeminent name in professional saxophones since 1935. Nearly all modern saxophones can find its DNA in the designs of the saxophones manufactured by Selmer in the mid 20th century. The Mark VI saxophone, whose production ceased for alto and tenor in 1974, and entirely for all other pitches by the 1980s, is still to this day the benchmark that other designs are held against. Its comfortable ergonomics have seen its way into nearly every saxophone produced by all major manufacturers, and its flexibility in tone has secured its place among many players as being the finest saxophone ever produced. I bought this sax from SAMASH store in Hollywood, CA few years ago and used it as main sax.
The serial number 191xxx dates this saxophone to 1971. This saxophone has huge Dark tone which is really punchy and clear. With Otto Link Metal mouthpiece, you can get that Wayne Shorter type expansive sound. This Mark VI takes different mouthpieces very well and you can hear the differences discreetly.
The sax was fully overhauled few years ago by a leading tech out of Los Angeles, USA and it needs nothing right now, New Black ROO pads are professionally installed and in excellent condition and have years of life in them. All the pads are seating well. The action on this thing is fluid and I prefer relatively loose action and had my sax tech ensure each key is on spot.
So right now it is fully functional and needs absolutely nothing, just a quick Visit to your fav tech to make minor adjustments, if at all! The sax, unlike some Mark VIs, plays in Tune and can do just any style of music.
There are minor dings and evidence of previous dent work, nothing major to hamper its tone or playability. Overall, excellent playing condition with a premium setup. Specs: - Premium Black ROO Pads with Domed Metal Resonators - Original Lacquer: 80%-85% - Original Neck with No Pull Down - Fully Regulated & Adjusted with Light Action - American Engraved. Lot of references available, if needed.
This sax would be a great tool for professional artist, serious hobbyist or student or a backup horn. Happy to answer any questions! A well thought/ reasonable offer will be accepted.
More about Selmer Mark VI. Mark VI drew its name from its position as sixth model since the production of the first saxophone in 1922. The inscription Mark VI can be found in several places on the saxophone; usually on the ring, sometimes on the bell and even occasionally on the body of the instrument. Mark VI was released to mark the 50th anniversary of the Gold Medal won in 1904 at the Saint-Louis Exhibition in Missouri. From 1951, Marcel Mule himself became passionately involved in the creation and development of the new Selmer saxophone. The production of Mark VI, a truly legendary instrument, continued for more than twenty years. It was distinguished notably by a new design of the octave key spatula and the left- and right-hand plastic thumb rests. Compared to the Balanced Action, the return to a smaller bore meant an improvement in the flexibility of play while still preserving good projection.
The flexibility of this instrument rapidly increased its popularity amongst all saxophonists whatever their style. The keywork delivered exceptional comfort by removing many playing constraints. On the new neck key, the S of Selmer could be found engraved on a blue background. And for the first time, Mark VI was equipped with the option of an extra octave vent key known as the harmonic key, used to facilit.
