This sax has been one of my main gigging saxes for years. Serial number 00157488 dates it to 1990. Some players will always want a sax set up more personally to their taste by their own technician. We have lots more photos including the original case, so we will provide upon request.

The Yanagasawa 880 is vastly. Stands up to its reputation as a pro horn in the same league as the Selmer Mark VI. Set up well, both saxophones are outstanding and can do everything you ask of them. A horn that plays like new in the end. Mark VI tenors that play like a new horn cost a fortune. The 880 is made with a higher quality and thickness brass (French brass) and, because of the additional thickness, the tone holes are shifted somewhat. The 880 features plate construction. Thats where a bunch of key posts are soldered to a plate, then soldered to the body. The 880 has double arms on the low C and low B keys. The 880 has an underslung octave key mechanism on the neck.

Modern keywork and excellent construction, great sound. Excellent intonation, great build qualtiy, rich fat warm tone. Tilting table spatula mechanism between B and C sharp which is very comfortable. Front F sculpted spatula style.

The older 880's have more body and fatter tone to the sound for Jazz and R&B than modern Yanagisawa. Lacquer is nice and strong. All the pads are in good playing condition.

There are light scratches and few oxidation spots on the horn. It has a few small dents. Despite all those minor things above, the horn is in great playing condition, amazing response, great projection, even scale, easy altissimo, warm with the right amount of edge.
