As it currently sits, it is unplayable and would need a full overhaul in order to become a fully functioning gig horn. This would be a fantastic horn for the jazz player seeking an affordable backup, a nice starter horn for the adult amateur, or a great art piece for the collector of vintage American-made saxophones. The lacquer of the saxophone a gold metal flake that glitters under light and 95%. There are 3 larger dents that need to be addressed for playability: the body tube near the right hand pinkey key, the post connecting the bell to the tube, and on the body tube above the right hand thumb rest.
All of the keys and rods are fully intact and the original rollers are functioning. The pads look to be very old, possibly original and would likely all need to be replaced in order to get this horn to function properly. There are some spots of pitting as shown in the pictures throughout the bell and body tube. The original neck has no alterations, but does show some small signs of pull-down. Included in this sale is the saxophone, case, mouthpiece, ligature, cap, and vintage Bates Sax Chain neck strap.
