King Super 20 Tenor Saxophone (Cleveland Factory) with Silver Double-Socket Neck & Full Pearls. Just Fully Overhauled and regulated to perfection w/ Black Roo Pads. This King Super 20 Tenor has the double-socket, solid silver neck and full pearls. Manufactured in 1948 at the HN White / King Cleveland factory, this horn is an incredible specimen from the best period of King saxophone manufacturing. The horn was re-lacquered, possibly in the 1960s or 1970s, but it's unclear.

The widow doesn't recall the specific details of the horn's history. The horn sings from bottom of the horn way into the altissimo registers and is in perfect, professional regulation. The resonance, tone and intonation are superb with the legendary sound that the King Super 20s are known for. These horns were comparable to the Selmer Mark VI horns and played by many legendary jazz artists such as Yusef Lateef & Cannonball Adderley. All original full-pearls are in tact and on the horn.

The horn comes in the original tri-pac case, though it's missing the clarinet case. The lid holds a flute perfectly. Case is in mediocre condition - interior is good, but the latch springs are broken, the buttons to open the latches are sticky and the handle on the end of the case to carry it vertically is missing. As a professional player, endorsed with Selmer-Paris / Conn-Selmer, Theo Wanne, Oleg Products, Silverstein Works and DG / Nadir Saxwind, I can vouch for this extraordinary horn. The sound of the old, American horns have a resonance and tone that is incomparable to the French or Japanese horns.

The horn blows freely and with ease across all registers with a broadness and girth unique to King and some of the other vintage US companies (Martin, Beuscher, Conn). With modern key-work that was actually adopted by Selmer during the Balance Action / Super Balance Action horns, this horn is something special. The overhaul was just done about a month ago. The action is tight and incredibly responsive.
