Vintage Martin Indiana stencil Tenor Sax Saxophone plays great

This is a Vintage Martin Indiana stencil Tenor Saxophone (branded as "Lyric") in excellent playing condition. The Martin Indiana has become a sought after sax for its big, vintage sound that many players today look for. It's considered an intermediate instrument, but many pros play them as well, specifically for their sound. This one was most likely made in the 1950s and.

Is engraved with "Lyric" on the bell. Distinctive beveled tone holes and keywork that identify it as a Martin Indiana. More importantly, it has the sound. I've owned this one for about 7 years and it has a HUGE sound.

It was recently serviced by an excellent tech in my area and currently plays great with no problems. The lacquer is about 50%, which you can see in the pics and there are no dents or sign of any significant damage or soldering. There is one very minor ding in the bottom front of the bell. I added a picture of that. I'm glad to provide a video clip if you're interested to prove it's in good playing order now.

Just ask if you're interested. These saxes are getting harder to find and vintage saxophone prices are through the roof these days. So grab this one at a reasonable price while you can. I've played sax for 30 years and I'm confident you won't regret it. For anyone who wants to know more about the history of these, here's some info another ebayer passed on to me.

In April 1929 Martin launched the Indiana Band Instrument Co with a new serial system at 1000. All stencils went to the Indiana BIC system. IBIC was originally run as a subsidiary, but after WWII. In 1945, IBIC stopped branding with Indiana Band Inst Co.

In 1950 the "Indiana by Martin" branding was launched. Lyric was a brand of Wurlitzer. In 1965 bought Martin out of Bankruptcy. The Lyric branding on this sax is post WWII and looks to have been launched in 1948, maybe 1949. It looks to have continued until 1957, maybe 1958. So there's more detailed info. This was most likely made by Martin for Wurlitzer in the early 1950s. The item "Vintage Martin Indiana stencil Tenor Sax Saxophone plays great" is in sale since Monday, October 11, 2021.
